Journalistic Challenges During Pandemic COVID-19

This gloom that has suddenly engulfed us, these moments of grief that has shook the entire world have left us brutally rattled and humankind was totally unaware that such uttermost consequences could be caused by a sub microscopic agent someday. These darkest hours are the corroboration that this is perhaps the hardest battle ever we are fighting for survival. Amid the uncertainties of tomorrow and the fear of losing our dear ones, there is something worth clinging on to. That is faith, patience, courage and strong determination to fight back. Amid this heart wrenching situation, we're facing, when millions of lives are affected. Journalists and mass communicators should rise like phoenix from the ashes and make the world a better place to live in again. The vivid impact of this crisis has left its remarks in the field of journalism too. There are many unprecedented challenges posed by this pandemic "COVID-19"/"CORONA VIRUS" in the field of journalism that are creating a whole new level of difficulties.

The new media have used an exceptionally broad range of different methods and approaches to cover the coronavirus pandemic and its consequences but on the other hand traditional media platforms are failing to compete.

The basic challenge for journalists is ensuring that their reports are based on truth, not opinions or online floating contents, and science, not speculation. While old fashioned media has reached a deafening crescendo already, while conventional journalism has become a tumultuous spectrum in comparison to the new-age mass media, the hurdles are now heightened by the pandemic COVID-19. It portrays that the trust the media has been working to regain with the public is now getting influenced by the contents affected by emotion and biasness. News-rooms are now basically getting effected due to lack of resources, lack of staffs and obstacles in reaching out to the spot of any incident while people are getting emotionally moved by the floating contents on social media and online portals without any proper fact checking. Our outlook on life has changed during last couple of months, mankind is more united than ever now. Hence all things must be examined, debated, investigated properly without exception and without regard for anyone's feelings.
